How The Jura Impressa XS90 Coffee Maker Measures Up – Our Straightforward Review

How The Jura Impressa XS90 Coffee Maker Measures Up – Our Straightforward Review

Ah, the Jura Impressa XS90 – if we didn’t know better, we’d think it sounded like a new supercar of some description (probably an ultra ecological hybrid of some sort, given its Swiss credentials). It is, however, a coffee machine – and what a coffee machine. Jura is a company that doesn’t do anything half-heartedly, and this is a serious coffee maker.

Meet The Jura Impressa XS90 Coffee Machine

You can treat yourself to 12 different types of coffee with this machine; that’s before we even look at the strength and the temperature options. You’d expect to see the espressos and “ordinary” coffee (can coffee ever be “ordinary”?). This machine, however, even makes lattes. The Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System means every cup tastes just perfect.

The Jura Impressa XS90 is not the cheapest coffee maker on the market, but Jura has a reputation for building machines that last. You can think of it as an investment. If you like a little engineering with your coffee, and you like a little manual control made simple, this will be the machine for you.

  • One touch cappuccino latte macchiato buttons, never move the cup
  • High-performance 15 bar pump
  • Two thermo-block heating systems
  • Six setting precision burr grinder with active bean level monitoring
  • Energy saving mode helps you save energy and money

It’s All In The Detail

This machine is packed with great, understated features. Take the display system, for instance. You can choose from seven languages that alert you if one of the maintenance programs needs to be activated.

The precision burr grinder has 6 settings, so you can grind your coffee beans as coarsely or as finely as you like. Of course, you can use pretty much any variety you like, too: Arabica, Robusta, decaffeinated; African, Indonesian, South American… The monitoring system keeps tabs on the level of beans in the dispenser, so the grinder does not run empty. The rotary switch lets you customize settings to suit your taste.

Care And Cleaning

We all love our coffee makers, but sometimes, let’s be honest, the descaling and cleaning can be something of a chore. So we love, love, love the integrated rinsing and cleaning program on the Impressa XS90 especially. What could be easier? You just pop one of the pills into the machine when prompted and it guides you calmly through the process. We’re also fans of the energy-saving mode.

The built-in maintenance programs are one of the aspects of this machine that makes it so durable (we’re very, very tempted to say “Jurable” at this point…). Each program takes you through all of the operating and programming steps needed to keep your Jura Impressa XS90 happily humming along. You may (very) occasionally need to send it to the manufacturer for a thorough clean, so bear that in mind.

Where Would The Jura Impressa XS90 Be Happiest?

This machine has a capacity of around 50 cups of coffee a day, making it ideal for small to medium-sized workplaces, community centers, large families, dorm room complexes and the like. It would probably fit well in staff rooms, small doctors’ messes or wardrooms (oh yes, we know how many medics love their coffee!). It would also suit a small to medium coffee shop, busy wellness salon, pet grooming parlor, or vehicle repair workshop reception area.

It’s not one of the smaller machines, so make sure you have enough counter space to accommodate it. The machine measures 15.5 x 16 x 18.5 inches and weighs 34 pounds (36.1 with shipping). (We told you this was a serious machine.) It is surprisingly complex given its robustness. It is a little on the loud side when grinding and brewing, so bear this in mind, although personally, we love to hear our coffee being made.

Mechanical Features

Remember we mentioned engineering? The 15-bar pump on this model means you get great pressure on the espresso, and indeed every coffee you make. The Jura Impressa XS90 has not one but two Thermoblock heating systems. Let’s just stay with the “twins” theme for a minute – you can also choose to dispense 1 or 2 servings of coffee or espresso at once.

The water tank holds 1.5 gallons of water or over 230 fluid ounces. Yes, that’s right: we said 230 fluid ounces – fill from the top. You do need at least five inches of clearance above this coffee maker for the water and seven inches for the beans. The hopper holds 10 ounces of coffee beans; the grounds container holds up to 40 portions before it needs emptying. This model also actively monitors the level of the coffee beans.

Pros & Cons

With all these gorgeous features, it can sometimes be difficult to work out if a coffee maker will suit. So to help you, here are some of the best aspects, and the not-quite-so-perfect aspects, of the Jura Impressa XS90.

The Best Aspects

This machine is super-sturdy

It’s extremely well-designed and engineered

The dual height-adjustable spout makes it an extremely efficient choice

The cleaning and maintenance cycles are very easy to run

You have a choice of 7 languages

There’s an energy-saving mode

The Not-Quite-So-Perfect Aspects

✗ You do need to make sure you have a good amount of counter space

✗ You need to ensure you have enough space above the machine for refilling

✗ The shipping materials can be a little flimsy for the weight of the machine

✗ It’s on the noisy side

The Jura XS90 Alternatives

Well, we can hear you saying to yourselves, that’s fine, but how do I know the Impressa XS90 is right for me? Just for peace of mind, then, let’s take a quick peek at a couple of others.

You’ll also probably find it reassuring – and not entirely surprising – that all the Jura Automated Coffee Centers are put through their paces in testing before being shipped. This does mean that there might be traces of coffee dust on the equipment, but we love the fact that this takes place – it all just adds to the thorough feel of the machines.

Jura ENA Micro 9 One Touch

This is our first alternative option to the Impressa CS90; it’s less pricey but, as with all the Jura products on the market, you get a lot of (coffee) beans for your buck. The Jura ENA Micro 9 machine is super-fast at steaming the foam since the Thermoblock 2010 heats up the liquid very quickly. Oh, and the foam technology has a lot of finesse.

The spout is height-adjustable, and, like the Jura Impressa CS90, produces two coffees at once via the dual outlet. The water filter programming when you start up the machine is also pretty rapid: we’re not quite saying blink and you miss it, but it is quick. You can also adjust the strength and the temperature of your coffee. You’ll need to allow 17 x 11.2 x 13.3 inches for this model, which weighs 32 pounds.

  • Thermoblock 2010 pump heats and steams faster
  • Height-adjustable dual spout; Fine foam technology
  • Programmable coffee strength and temperature
  • Easier, faster water filter programming during initial start-up
  • Note: All Jura Automated Coffee Centers go through testing prior to shipment - therefore there are traces of coffee dust.

Jura J80 Automatic Coffee Center

This is another Jura Impressa model, very slightly cheaper than the ENA Micro 9. This machine gives you 5 adjustable strengths for your coffee and 2 brewing temperature options. The coffee spout is height-adjustable, the machine keeps a careful eye on the level of your coffee beans to avoid you running out, and it has a cappuccino frother too.

You can make a cappuccino, espresso, coffee and more with the Jura J80. You might need to weigh up durability against price, since, as with all the Jura models, the price does mean it represents a serious investment. Size-wise, you need 17 x 11.2 x 13.3 inches, and the machine weighs 32 pounds. We’re pretty sure it will still be on your counter several years from now if you decide to buy one.

Jura Impressa A9 P.E.P One-Touch (Renewed)

This coffee maker is part of the Renewed program. Pre-owned items are inspected and tested thoroughly by suppliers who qualify to be included in the sales program. These items sometimes ship in generic packaging, having been pre-owned. The price point can often make these products extremely attractive although the 90 day guarantee is shorter than you would get with a brand new model.

The touchscreen display on the Impressa A9 is super-easy to use, and you can choose from a dozen coffee options. These 12 choices include the glorious two-shots-in-one-cup cappuccino doppio and latte macchiato. The 15-bar high-performance pump means you know when you brew an espresso coffee, for instance, you’re getting just the right amount of pressure for maximum taste and perfect crema.

The machine is made from solid aluminum and the spout incorporates fine foam technology. We don’t think it will surprise you that the spout is both dual and height-adjustable, so whether it’s a travel mug or a china cup you’re using, it will fit right in. This was the largest of the alternatives we checked out, measuring 21.8 x 19 x 19.1 inches. It weighs just under 30 pounds.

Would We Recommend The Jura Impressa XS90?

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.8/5)

Yes, in a word, if you’re serious about coffee, we heartily recommend the Jura XS90. It might be a little too serious for some smaller households, and we think it might look a little out of scale in, say, a dorm room or RV, unless you’re real coffee fiends, of course! If your household on the larger side, though, it would be ideal. And if coffee is important to your business, for staff or clients or both, this machine would be a perfect choice.

To sum up, this sturdy, serious machine is well-designed and looks great. It has a solid capacity of 50 cups of coffee from one tank of water. It’s designed to last and has strong environmental credentials. And as a final comment, Jura as a company is also known for its speedy and responsive customer service. So, for all those reasons, it’s a solid 4.8 stars from us.

Keurig K200 Plus Review – The Highs And The Lows [Series 2.0 New Release]

Keurig K200 Plus Review – The Highs And The Lows [Series 2.0 New Release]

The Keurig company regularly updates its coffee makers, at least once a year. So you’re pretty much guaranteed to find at least a couple you’ll like.  We must confess we’re very taken with the Keurig K200 Plus. You know we love to try out new additions in the world of coffee making and drinking, so we were delighted to explore this new addition to the Keurig Plus series. (Did you know the Keurig company founders got the idea for the company name from the Dutch word for “excellence”, by the way?)

Making The Acquaintance Of The Keurig K200 Plus

This machine is well-designed, super-easy to use, and very compact. The updated technology means the information on the K-Cup, K-Mugs and K-Carafe pods is read in a couple of seconds, adjusting the output accordingly. You’re therefore assured of a perfect beverage every time.

Keurig K200 Plus

Keurig K200 plus Series 2.0 40 oz Coffee Maker (119256) Black - New
  • K-Cup Pod brew sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10 oz. K-Mug Pod brew sizes: 12, 14, 16 oz. K-Carafe Pod brew sizes: 22, 26, 30 oz.
  • 40 oz. removable water reservoir is located behind the brewer to help save space
  • Strength Control Settings: Strength control means you can brew your way - strong or regular - to suit your taste
  • Black and white touch screen makes it easy to adjust settings

One of the nicest updates is that the removable 40-ounce water reservoir now sits behind the brewing mechanism, so it looks sleeker than ever on your kitchen counter. The black-and-white digital display is extremely simple to use and reset. There is now an additional option for specialty drinks.

How Much Can You Brew?

One important factor in deciding which coffee maker to purchase is the type of coffee you can brew, and how much you can brew at once. We’re pretty sure you’ll be delighted with the range of options this coffee maker offers. If you’re using K-Cups, you have a choice of 4, 6, 8, or 10 fluid ounces; K-Mugs offer 12, 14 or 16 ounces; and the K-Carafe pods are 22, 24 or 30 ounces. You can also vary the strength settings, but you do need to buy the carafe separately.

What Can You Brew?

If you’re thinking about buying a Keurig coffee maker, you probably already know you can choose from well over 500 varieties of beverages. If you’re new to Keurig, the sheer width of the range might surprise you – from high-street coffee shops to long-established global household names. The Keurig 2.0 technology means whipping up a cup of delicious coffee, refreshing tea, or relaxing hot cocoa is simplicity itself. When the coffee machine reads the lid of every K-Cup, K-Mug or K-Carafe it dispenses just the right amount of water, at just the right temperature. This model also has a separate setting for specialty beverages – if chai, hot cocoa or even mocha are your delights.

How To Get The Best Brew With The Keurig K200 Plus

Keurig recommends using filtered or bottled water, although the machine has a very effective integrated descaling program. This is especially important if your water is high in mineral content. The machine will nag you to descale until you complete the cycle – you can “snooze” the function but it will remind you in six weeks’ time. Grounds do occasionally get stuck in the needle, so the machine ships with a brewer maintenance accessory.

How Well Will This Machine Complement My Decor?

If a coffee machine can be called svelte, this coffee maker is definitely svelte. It measures 15.2 by 11 by 16.6 inches and weighs 10.3 pounds after shipping is removed. Depending on the vendor, this machine is available in seven different colors. Our favorite is the sleek black edition, which complements any kitchen. The drip tray is removable, meaning you can slip a travel mug under the dispenser for coffee-on-the-go. You also need to remove the drip tray for carafes. You can only brew a carafe if the flask itself is perfectly in place and only Keurig’s own carafes will work.

Other Features Of The K200 Plus Keurig

This model typically ships with a Keurig 2.0 water filter, descaling solution, and a starter pack of K-cups. The water filter is simple to install and change, with replacements readily available. We can’t overstate how easy this machine is to use. The “touch of a button” produces great tasting coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot cocoa, chai or dozens of other drinks. The typical heating and dispensing time is under a minute. The black and white touch screen also makes it a snip to change settings. What you don’t see, when listening to those quietly reassuring brewing noises, is what’s going on under the hood, as it were. The piston and air pumps work super hard to make sure your drink tastes great every time. This model isn’t the cheapest in the Keurig range but is very good value for money.

The Good Aspects And The Not-So-Good Aspects

No coffee maker is perfect, so we’re just highlighting the best aspects of this coffee machine, and the least endearing features. All Keurig coffee makers are known for the range of drinks available and their well-engineered proprietary technology. Within the range, however, there’s a wide choice of options, with different brew sizes, dimensions and special features available. So here’s how this machine shapes up.

What we really like

The great choice of brew sizes

Really easy to use and change settings

The specialty drinks option

✔  It looks super-smart and up-to-the-minute

The water reservoir is behind the brewer – great use of space

Keenly priced

What we don't like

✗ No auto-on feature

✗ You can’t vary the temperature control

✗ You need a good amount of clearance above the lid

This model is a relatively recent addition to the Keurig offering, so the reviews are not yet as numerous as for some older machines. Those who’ve opted for this machine, however, are pretty unanimous in how they feel about it – and that’s overwhelmingly positive. Users praise the ease of use, the range of brew sizes, and the fact that it looks great. You still get to choose from the great range of Keurig K-Cup pods out there, but there’s now the very welcome “specialty drinks” button.

What Other Coffee Machines Might You Consider?

Although we love the Keurig K200 Plus Series 2.0, we think it’s only fair to look at a few others. This will let you compare and contrast, so you can make an informed choice.

Keurig 2.0 K200

The Keurig K200 typically runs a little cheaper than the newer Keurig K200 Series 2.0; we checked out the quirky turquoise one. There are 9 brew sizes, including carafe, with a 40-ounce water tank. You can control the strength of your drink. It measures 15 x 9 x 13.7 inches high. You do need to make sure you have an extra 4 inches of clearance above that so you can add, remove and change pods. This is a very light machine, at 7.5 pounds. As with the Keurig K200 Series 2.0, the water filter is super-easy to install: just slip it into the top of the machine where you add water. Why not check out this Keurig 2.0 K200 for yourself?

Keurig K250

It typically ships with a starter pack of 4 K-Cup pods, a water filter handle, 2 water filters, and a bottle of descaling solution. The drip tray is removable. The machine measures 9 x 15 x 13.7 inches high. The water reservoir is 40 ounces, with brew sizes of 4, 6, 8, or 10 ounces, or carafes of 22, 26, or 30 ounces. Would We Recommend The Keurig 200 Plus?

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (5/5)

You’ve probably gathered, we really like the Keurig 200 Plus. It combines many of Keurig’s best features, adding some great new ones too. (Yes, we love our specialty drinks!) It’s very decently priced, and the technology has been updated very well. We like its appearance; we love the range of brew sizes and how ultra-easy it is to select your drink. Maintenance is no-fuss, and we love, above all, the way the drinks taste. So, yes, we’d give it five stars overall.

Pressed To Impress: Our Straightforward Review Of The Jura Impressa C65

Pressed To Impress: Our Straightforward Review Of The Jura Impressa C65

When you think of all things Swiss, you probably think of precision. Engineering. Clean lines. Efficiency. Oh, and really good coffee machines. Founded in 1931, the Jura company makes serious machines for serious coffee drinkers. This definitely applies to the Jura 15068 Impressa C65 Automatic Coffee Machine.

The Jura company doesn’t produce the cheapest machines, but they are long-lasting and very well-designed. If you drink a lot of coffee, this machine will pay for itself very quickly.

Presenting the Jura Impressa C65 Model

This “super automatic” model has numerous features that make it ultra-easy to whip up an authentic espresso, luscious latte, or creative cappuccino. It’s well-designed, attractive, and sturdy, yet surprisingly compact. It’s easy to use, offers you a choice of using whole coffee beans or pre-ground coffee, and comes with an integrated milk frother.

  • Simple operation - thanks to the one-switch operating concept of the smart rotary switch
  • Height-adjustable Coffee spout - the Height of the Coffee spout can be adjusted between 2.6 - 4.4 inches to allow any size of cup to be used
  • Fine foam frothier - the revolutionary fine foam technology ensures unique milk foam quality with a fine, feather-light consistency
  • Combination of striking clean lines, compact Dimensions, high-quality materials and uncompromising workmanship
  • Turn, press, enjoy - that's how easy it is to enter the world of impressa

The machine has a relatively “retro” look: almost like a tiny, perfect jukebox. You can make two coffees at once, and while there are a few quirks, this machine is very easy to use, clean and maintain. Jura recommends this machine for domestic use, but with its 64-ounce water tank it would not look too incongruous in a small workplace either.

Features And Benefits

This coffee maker is delightfully simple to operate. The left hand-button has several smaller touch screen buttons clustered around it. The machine makes great use of the one-switch operating via a simple rotary switch.

All you need to do is add your coffee: whole beans in the hopper on the right hand, or pre-ground coffee in the hopper on the top. Then just turn the rotary switch, press, and wait for your drink.

The Quality Of Coffee

The crema that this machine produces is consistently very decent, although some users didn’t find it particularly spectacular. This machine is also relatively quiet. It also machine grinds your coffee beans just how you like them, which is largely due to the high-performance conical grinder.

The Jura has an excellent filtration system, meaning it can cope well with hard water and still produce a great-tasting cup of coffee every time. The item ships with a strip to allow you to test the hardness of the water so you can decide if you need to add the filters in from the very beginning.

Which Coffee Beans Should You Use?

This machine allows you to control the temperature, strength and cup size and you can brew two cups of coffee at once. The default coffee cup size is very small. While whole coffee beans of the oily type are not recommended, if you absolutely can’t live without your stronger, oilier blends, then using a pre-ground variety in the hopper might be an option.

One of the best features of this machine is that you can choose to use either whole beans or pre-ground coffee. It is best to use beans that aren’t too oily, however. You’ll get the best authentic cortados, espressos, lattes, and even coffee from this machine if you use less oily beans. Lavazza super crema is one of the blends that should work well.

The machine incorporates special fine foam technology so the froth produced is consistently light as a feather. It lets you add an extra special touch to cappuccinos and lattes. This Jura model comes with a standard frothing attachment, which works really well. You can also buy a separate, more specialized accessory frother if you frequently heat milk.

Technical Specifications

There’s a 15-bar high-performance pump. This machine also has an energy-saving mode. It’s a surprisingly compact machine, given how powerful it is, and you need just 16.1 by 11 by 13.6 inches of space to house this coffee maker. It weighs a solid 22 pounds (23.6 when you add shipping materials). The height of the coffee spouts can be adjusted from 2.6 to 4.4 inches so just about any size of cup will slot under there.

Not only are the instructions clear and easily legible, but you also get a choice of eleven languages. The display does have something of the classic look of a science fiction script about it, but it is very distinctive and we love the high contrast look of the lettering.

Care And Maintenance

This machine guides you through when it’s ready to brew, when to empty the used grounds and drip tray and when to run the cleaning cycle. Keep it in tip-top condition by always using clean, fresh water, either bottled, tap, spring or reverse osmosis.

The Jura Impressa C65 automatically runs a “rinse” cycle each time it brews at both the beginning and the end of the sequence. It’s a good idea, therefore, to make sure you have something under the spout after you’ve made your coffee to catch any drips.

You do need to obey the instructions on cleaning cycles, however, as after 200 cups the machine won’t run until the cycle has been run. This machine is, however,  very easy to clean. Just pop a cleaning tablet in the grinder and off it goes on its merry way, ensuring the machine gets a thorough cleansing. The cycle takes around 20 minutes to run through from start to finish.

We just have one final comment about the setup and use of this machine. You probably will want to have the manual close to hand, especially when you and your Jura are first getting acquainted.

Great retro look with clean lines and clear colors

Super-easy to set up, program, maintain and clean

Choice of using whole beans or pre-ground coffee

Very customizable

What we don't like

✗ The default cup size is on the small side even for an espresso

✗ Sometimes when the machine says “touch” it really means “tap and hold”, not just “tap”

✗ It is relatively pricey

Buying a Jura coffee machine isn’t something that’s done lightly. Once they’ve wangled their way into your home or workplace, it’s likely they’ll always be a favorite. Customer reviews of the Jura 15068 Impressa C65 Automatic Coffee Machine reflect this, with around three-quarters of users describing extremely positive experiences.

Many happy owners talk about the quality of the crema, the ease of programming and the fact that the cleaning cycle is very easy to run, helping to lengthen the life of the machine and, most importantly, the coffee tastes great. The filtration system also comes in for praise, especially from those in hard water areas.

Jura C65 Alternatives

We know you want to make sure that you get the most suitable coffee machine, so we always like to check out the opposition, as it were. So we’ve checked out three alternatives, just to help you be sure that the C65 is, or isn’t, right for you.

DeLonghi ECAM22110SB

The DeLonghi ECAM is usually a little pricier than the Jura C65, and a little more complex than the Jura. It incorporates a professional burr grinder and there are 13 adjustable settings. Like the Jura C65, the machine offers the user a choice of using pre-ground coffee or whole coffee beans.

  • The adjustable manual cappuccino system mixes steam and milk to create the thickest, longest-lasting foam for your cappuccino. And it's easy to adjust the levels to prepare a creamy latte, macchiato...
  • Simply adjust the menu settings for temperature, coffee strength and cup size according to your preferences. The machine takes care of the rest.
  • Maintenance: de'longhi machines require half the cleaning time of other brands, unlike competitor machines, which require chemical cleaning tablets monthly.
  • Warranties may not apply to purchases from an unauthorized retailer.

The water capacity of this machine is 60 fluid ounces; it heats up in under 60 seconds, and the bean container holds 8.8 ounces of coffee. De Longhi machines are also well-known for their ease of maintenance and the short duration of their cleaning cycles. This model ships with a manual frothing wand.

You can adjust the cup size, temperature, and drink strength, and the optimum temperature control means you can brew one cup after another very quickly. This machine isn’t quite as distinctive looking as the Jura C65, although it is still attractive and would not look out of place in any kitchen.

Breville BES870XL

Our second alternative to the Jura C65, the Barista Express BES870XL,  is around the same price as the Jura model, and it’s especially good for excellent espresso. If you’d rather whip up lattes and cappuccinos it does include a steaming wand. The amount of grind can be varied easily and a very appealing feature of this machine is the digital temperature control.

  • Grind size dial: simple and intuitive, giving you control over the grind size no matter what type of bean you're grinding
  • Hands free operation: innovative grinding cradle allows any at home Barista to grind directly into the espresso port filter

In general, this machine is controlled via analog buttons. It weighs 23 pounds, or just under 29 pounds with shipping, and measures 13.25 x 12.5 x 15.75 inches. This machine comes with a very good range of accessories, including single and dual wall filter baskets and a coffee scoop; a razor dose trimming tool; a 54-millimeter stainless steel filter; cleaning disc, brush and tablets; Allen key; a water filter and holder; and a stainless steel milk jug.

Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

The final machine in our comparison with the Jura C65, the Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine with Iron Frame and Stainless Steel Side Panels, is in the same price category as the Jura. It’s cleverly designed, with the compact shape integrating the serving spout and the articulating steam wand well. Steam is quite a feature with this machine: as well as the articulating wand, there’s also a professional steaming knob to control the pressure of the steam with great precision.

  • Commercial grade group head for superb heat stability and extraction quality
  • Articulating steam wand offers complete range of motion and professional steaming knob precisely controls steaming pressure

  • Optional pod and capsule adaptor kit available

This machine is slightly heavier than the others we looked at, weighing in at 30.8 pounds without shipping. It includes a good selection of accessories, including tamper, water container, and cover, drain and under overflow pans. The machine also ships with a coffee basket or handle, as well as both a single and double shot interior cup.

Though if you would like to stick to Jura exceptional quality, we have also created a roundup review of the best Jura coffee machines of 2019.

Conclusion And Rating

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

The Jura Impressa C65 is recommended for domestic settings but would also work well in small to medium workplaces. We could definitely see this machine adding a little customer comfort to a salon setting, or a car dealership, a barrister’s office, or a recruitment agency, for instance.

The machine is easy to use, well-thought-out and even lets you know what needs emptying. So if you have a household or workplace with a mix of espresso, latte, cappuccino and even coffee drinkers, this is a solid choice – which is why we’ve given it a robust 4.5 stars.

The Lowdown On The Keurig K55 Single-Serve Coffee Maker: Our No Frills Review

The Lowdown On The Keurig K55 Single-Serve Coffee Maker: Our No Frills Review

For many of us, Keurig means coffee – especially when it comes to convenience. The company has such a wide range of single-serve coffee machines, updated so regularly, that there is a model to suit everyone.

Deciding which Keurig is the best option for you can, however, be tricky. With such a range of machines, how do you go about working out which one should take pride of place on your kitchen counter? Our no-nonsense, straightforward review of the Keurig K55 is here to help you compare this model to other Keurig machines and choose the best option.

Let Us Introduce The Keurig K55

The Keurig K55 is attractively designed, with a sleek black finish and modern looking buttons. There’s a reasonable range of brew sizes and a decently sized water reservoir for a small household. The entire machine has a small footprint, although it’s not the smallest in the Keurig range.

  • BREWS MULTIPLE K-CUP POD SIZES: (6, 8, 10 oz.) the most popular K-Cup pod brew sizes. Use the 6oz brew size to achieve the strongest brew.
  • LARGE 48 oz. WATER RESERVOIR: Allows you to brew 6+ cups before having to refill, saving you time and simplifying your morning routine. The water reservoir is removable, making it easy to refill...
  • DESCALING: An important part of cleaning your Keurig brewer. This process helps to remove calcium deposits, or scale, that can build up inside a coffee maker over time. Please refer to our descaling...
  • AUTO-OFF: An auto-off feature is easily programmed to turn off your coffee maker after it has been idle for two hours, helping to save energy.

One of the major attractions of Keurig machines is that you know you’re always guaranteed a fresh-tasting cup of coffee, tea, cocoa, hot chocolate or indeed anything else you might like to drink to refresh your palate. Now let’s examine the Kuerig K55 Single-Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker more carefully.

What Drinks Options Do You Have With The Keurig K55?

The Keurig K55 offers three standard sizes of drink: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, and 10 ounces, all represented visually by cups on the top panel. For larger servings, simply employ a little basic math: so, for a 12-ounce travel mug, for instance, just brew 2 6-ounce servings of coffee, and combine. You can decide how many K-cup pods to use to suit your taste.

You can’t change the brewing temperature on this model. Keurig has set 192 to 193 degrees Fahrenheit as the optimum temperature for coffee. To ensure your drink doesn’t cool too quickly, hacks include making sure your cup is warm before you brew, via a few seconds in the microwave or a splash of boiling water.

The Range Of Beverages

We’ve already touched on the fact that drinks made with a Keurig always come out fresh, hot, and authentic-tasting. The sheer range of beverages you can obtain for Keurig machines is also a major draw.

The range isn’t only restricted to coffee, of course; with the K55 Keurig, there are blends of tea, hot cocoa or chocolate, and herbal infusions to enjoy. If you’re an iced beverage fan, fear not: it takes a little imagination and a tiny amount of preparation, but you can even use the Keurig® K55 Coffee Maker to make iced coffee.

Just have your crushed or block ice ready in a separate container, brew your drink as usual, and then pour over. Hey, presto! Instant iced coffee, brewed just as you like it.

Most of the drinks available for Keurig machines are relatively mild tasting, so if it’s a stronger drink you require, we suggest you buy the stronger blends, use the smaller cup size, or both. The Keurig K55 also doubles as a plain water heater, great if you’d like to quickly rehydrate soup, oats or noodles.

Care And Maintenance Of The Keurig K55

Most of the machines produced by Keurig are straightforward to keep clean, and the Keurig K55 is no exception. The water reservoir is removable, so you can descale it and refill it quickly and easily. The water reservoir has a capacity of 48 fluid ounces.

Regular descaling is essential if you want to keep your coffee tasting as fresh as possible, and if you live in a hard water area, even more so. There’s a super-simple “Descale” button on this machine to help kickstart the process.

What Else Do You Need To Know About The Keurig K55?

We’ve mentioned the delightfully small physical footprint of the Keurig K55 already. To be a little more precise, to accommodate this nifty little machine, allow 9.8 by 3 by 13.3 inches. That 13.3-inch clearance is for the machine when the lid is closed, so you will need to allow a few more inches when you’re swapping or removing pods.

One of the most modern aspects of this machine is its auto-off feature. If it’s been left standing idle for two hours (heaven forbid!), then the Kurig K55 will turn itself off. It’s also pretty light, weighing around 12 pounds. We also really, really like the “Add water” button.

Pros And Cons Of The Keurig K55

Just like any coffee machine, the Keurig K55 is not (quite) perfect. It has its bonus points and its less-than-perfect aspects. So we’ve been as objective as we can.

To help you decide if this is the right machine for you, we’ve made a list of the things we like about this model, and the aspects we’re not so keen on. Of course, ultimately, it’s your choice.

What we really like

Smart-looking and contemporary

Good sized buttons with clear text

Straightforward user interface

Small physical footprint

The black finish will go with any style of décor

Truly great range of K-Cup pods available

Super-high levels of convenience

What we don't like

✗ You only get three brew sizes as standard

✗ The water reservoir is on the small side

✗ The brewing temperature is pretty much set in stone

As a relatively niche model, there are fewer reviews of the Keurig K55 than for some others in the range. Having said that, however, out of every 10 owners, around 6.5 were delighted, or at least very happy indeed, with the machine.

Yes, we know. You can’t have 6.5 people. It’s that math thing again. Essentially, over 60% of owners either loved this model or really, really liked it. Those who liked it were especially pleased with its convenience and ease of use. Those who were a little less enthusiastic mentioned the brewing temperature as a factor that affected their views.

Alternatives To The Keurig K55

The K55 is a compact and attractive machine, but what if you’re not entirely sure it’s what you’re looking for? You’ve definitely decided it’s still a Keurig that you’d like to grace your kitchen counter, but why not take a look at a couple of others first, before making your final decision?

Keurig K50

The Keurig K50 All Purposed Coffee Maker runs a little pricier than the Keurig K55 Classic, but still represents excellent value for money. You can brew coffee, tea, chocolate or hot cocoa, specialty infusions and coffee blends, and iced beverages. Again, for iced beverages, you do need to apply a little imagination and you need to make sure your preparation is up to par.

  • Brews 6 oz. , 8 oz. , and 10 oz. Sizes
  • Always ready and brews in under a minute
  • Removable 48 oz. Water reservoir | indicator lights
  • Programmable auto off feature | removable drip tray

Like the K55, you can brew standard-sized cups of 6 ounces, 8 ounces or ten ounces. The brew time is short, less than a minute, and, as with the K55, the removable water reservoir holds 48 ounces. This machine has a programmable auto-off feature, while the removable drip tray means that you can slip a smaller sized travel mug under the spout for easy coffee-on-the-go.

Keurig K250

The Keurig K250 Coffee Maker is another great alternative option to the Keurig K55 if you need help making up your mind. Like the K50, this model is usually a little more expensive than the K55, but there are a few more features that explain why.

To begin with, you can choose how strong you’d like your coffee, although the temperature remains set. You also get a choice of 9 brew sizes with this machine.

  • Brews multiple K-Cup pod brew sizes (4, 6, 8, 10 oz.) and brews a Carafe (22, 26, or 30oz) using K-Carafe pods to give you more coffee when you need it (Carafe sold separately)
  • Strength Control:  A strength control setting allows you to brew a bolder cup using any K-Cup pod brew size
  • A black and white touch screen makes it easy to brew a fresh, great tasting cup in under a minute

This machine tends to be a little more expensive than the K55 Classic Model, although there are a couple of extra features. As well as offering you the chance to choose the strength of your coffee, this model comes in a truly delightful range of colors, depending on your stockist. So if you’ve just redecorated your kitchen in peacock blue (or teal), there’s a color to blend in.

This model measures 15 by 9 by 13.7 inches. You will need to make sure, as is the case for most Keurig coffee makers designed in this way, that you have at least 17.6 inches of clearance above the lid. This is essential so that you can easily change, insert, or remove pods. The weight of this coffee maker is 7.5 pounds, increasing to 11.75 pounds once shipping materials are taken into account. This model does not usually come with a starter pack of pods, however, and the shut-off is not automated.

Keurig K-Select Coffee Maker

The K-Select Keurig Coffee Maker is, again, a little more expensive than the K55, but comes with strength control and hot water on demand. The finish is matte black. There is a choice of 4 standard brew sizes: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, 10 ounces, and 12 ounces. You can vary the strength and intensity of your drink with the K-Select.

  • BREWS MULTIPLE CUP SIZES: (6, 8, 10, 12 oz.). Enjoy the most popular cup sizes all with QUIET BREW TECHNOLOGY, minimizing noise during use.
  • STRONG BREW: Kicks up your coffee's strength and intensity.
  • LARGE 52 oz. WATER RESERVOIR: Allows you to brew 5 cups before having to refill, saving you time and simplifying your morning routine. Removable reservoir makes refilling easy.
  • SIMPLE BUTTON CONTROLS: Just insert a pod, select your desired cup size, and brew a great-tasting cup in under a minute.

This is one of the quieter models available so if you have housemates, relatives, friends or colleagues who find noise disturbing, this might be a particularly good machine to consider. There’s a programmable auto-off feature, and this machine alerts you when you need to descale.

It’s simple to use, without too many unnecessary buttons. The removable water reservoir is larger than on some of the other small Keurig machines, holding 52 ounces. With the drip tray removed, this machine can accommodate travel mugs up to 7.4 inches in height.

Conclusion And Our Rating

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

Keurig generally inspires loyalty. The range of drinks available is pretty much unparalleled. In recent years, with the advent of reusable K-Cup pods, you can even add your own choice of coffee blend or loose leaf tea and help keep environmental waste to a minimum.

This machine is so small and sweet, you’ll barely notice it’s there unless you’re using it to brew a delicious cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. This is one of the many reasons we’re giving the Keurig K55 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker an overall rating of 4.5 stars.

Keurig K50 Coffee Maker Balanced Review: Is It The Best Choice For You?

Keurig K50 Coffee Maker Balanced Review: Is It The Best Choice For You?

When you think of single-serve coffee machines, there are a few players that you know will always deliver. And for many of us, Keurig means coffee – especially when convenience is top of our list. The company makes such a great range of single-serve coffee machines that there is one to suit everyone.

It isn’t always easy, however, to decide which one is the best option for you. Our no-nonsense, straightforward Keurig K50 review is here to help you choose.

Keurig K50 Coffee Maker

The Keurig K50 All Purposed Coffee Maker is a smart, compact, modern-looking machine. This petite coffee maker has quite a “no-nonsense” look about it, with a simple-to-use design, a decent choice of brew sizes, and a reasonably-sized water reservoir.

  • Removable 48 oz. Water reservoir | indicator lights
  • Programmable auto off feature | removable drip tray

There is no confusion about where to place the cup or the pod, and it’s especially suited to small kitchens, RVs, camping, dorm rooms. Small workplaces will also find it a convenient option to welcome guests and keep staff happy.

You know with Keurig you will always get a fresh cup of coffee, tea, cocoa or hot chocolate, and using the Keurig K50 without a pod also allows you to use it for hot water only. This versatile approach means you can also use it to rehydrate noodles, oats, soup, or other dried snack pot meals. So let’s have a look at the Keurig K50 coffee maker in a little more detail.

Keurig K50: Drinks Options

One of the major attractions of buying a Keurig machine is the sheer range of drinks available. The range includes many authentic tasting flavors from high street coffee shops and global hot beverage brands.

The range isn’t limited only to coffee either: with the Keurig K50, you can also brew tea, hot cocoa or chocolate, and, increasingly, specialty drinks. You can even make iced beverages – have your ice ready in a separate container, brew your drink as normal, then simply pour the liquid over the ice.

You get three standard choices of brew size with the K50 Keurig: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, and 10 ounces, with 6 ounces providing the strongest drink. For larger cup sizes, say 16 ounces, you can brew one batch at 6 ounces and one at 10 ounces, making sure you use the appropriate number of capsules to suit your taste.

Most of the pods you can buy are relatively mild, so if you’re keener on the stronger blends you’ll need to buy the more intense blends, use the smaller mug option, or both.

The coffee is generally at a decent temperature, around 192 to 193 degrees Fahrenheit, which is what Keurig regards as the optimum temperature. There is some good-natured debate about precisely what the best temperature for brewing coffee. This model is compatible with any K-cup and can whip up a brew in under a minute.

Design, Care And Maintenance Of The Keurig K50

This is one of the simpler machines in the range; there are no programming options, and the machine itself has a no-fuss black plastic section where the pods go, and an obvious location to show you where to put your cup. The dimensions of the Keurig K50 are 9.8 by 13 by 13.3 inches, and it weighs 7.6 pounds. This increases to around 12.25 pounds when you factor in shipping.

The Keurig K50 comes with a 48-ounce water reservoir. It’s removable to allow for easy cleaning and refilling, and there are indicator lights to help you keep a check on when it needs to be refilled. As with most of Keurig’s machines, and indeed, most coffee machines of this type, it is necessary to descale regularly to keep the coffee maker operating well and ensure your coffee stays great tasting. That’s especially true if you live in a hard water area.

What Else Do You Need To Know About The Keurig K50?

There is an auto-off option, which can be programmed. The removable drip tray means a shorter travel mug can easily be accommodated, and the tray slips out easily.

This machine is far from silent, but it is relatively quiet, for a coffee maker. This machine does require one lithium-ion battery.

Pros And Cons Of The Keurig K50

As with any coffee machine, there are good aspects and not-so-good aspects of the Keurig K50. There is no absolutely perfect coffee maker out there, and so much depends on your own situation and personal tastes.

Well, we’ve given the matter some thought, and the pros and cons of the machine are listed below. We hope they’ll help you make your mind up.

What we really like

Extremely easy to use

Decent sized reservoir for a one or two-person household or small office

It’s very compact

Very low-maintenance when it comes to cleaning and care

It looks very modern

What we don't like

✗ Even without the drip tray, it doesn’t take tall travel mugs

✗ You can’t change the brewing temperature

✗ For strong, specialty or iced beverages, you’ll need to adapt your brewing technique

Of the Keurig K50 reviews, 80% of those owning this model were pleased, with almost 70% being very pleased. Around 12% of owners expressed disappointment, although in many cases their ratings were related to the fact the Keurig K50 quite different from older machines they had owned. Overall, there are around four times as many positive reviews out there for this machine as there are negatives.

Alternatives To The Keurig K50

The Keurig Hot K50 is a very smart, compact machine, but what if it isn’t quite what you’re looking for? You know it’s still a Keurig that you’d like to add to your kitchen counter, but you just want to take a couple of others into consideration first, before making your final choice.

  • AUTO-OFF: An auto-off feature is easily programmed to turn off your coffee maker after it has been idle for two hours, helping to save energy.

The Keurig K55 machine is a little more expensive than the Kuerig K50. It generally ships with 4 K-Cup pods to get you started, a water filter handle, and two spare water filters. Like the Keurig 50, you have a choice of 6, 8, or 10 ounces as the standard brew sizes, and there is a 48-ounce removable reservoir.

One of the main differences is that this machine has an auto-off feature; this coffee maker turns itself off if it’s been idle for two hours. It weighs in the region of 12 pounds, and size-wise, you will need to make sure you have 9.8 by 3 by 13.3 inches available. You need a few more inches of clearance above the 13.3 inches when you’re changing the pods.

We already compared this machine with the Keurig K250, the K45, the K50 and the Keurig K-Select and have to say this model is definitely worth the money.

Keurig 2.0 Brewer, K200, Black (117644)
  • 9 brew sizes (including carafe sizes)
  • 40 oz. Water Reservoir
  • Strength Control
  • Black and White Touch Display
  • Compact Size

The Keurig K200 is another alternative to the Keurig Classic K50 that you might want to consider. The price point of this machine is typically a little more expensive than the Keurig K-classic K50, and a little lower in price than the K55. With this machine, you can choose the strength of your drink, although not the temperature. There is a black and white touch display to guide you through your options.

It has a rather smaller water reservoir, which is removable to allow for easy filling and cleaning, and you have a choice of 9 brew sizes with this machine, including the carafe options. You do need to buy the carafe separately. The maximum height of travel mug you can use with this machine is around 5.5 inches.

The dimensions of this model are 15 by 9 by 13.7 inches: as with most of the Keurig coffee makers with this type of design, when the lid is open you need 17.6 inches of clearance to remove, insert or change pods. The device weighs 7.5 pounds or around 11.75 pounds with shipping. This model does not usually ship with pods and there is no auto shut-off. You will require 2 AAA batteries for this machine.

The machine performed well during our testing. It often outperformed the competing Keurig machines (the K50 model, the K425 and the K250).

Conclusion And Our Rating

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

In general, users are very loyal to Keurig once they’ve tried out a model or two. You get a great choice of drinks, the machines are ultra-convenient, and if you choose a model like the Keurig K50, you need hardly any space at all to snuggle one into your kitchen.

For that, and many other reasons, the Keurig K 50 gets a 4.5-star rating from us. So with that in mind, it must be time for a brew or two!

Is The Rok EspressoGC Coffee Maker Right For You? Our No-Nonsense Review

Is The Rok EspressoGC Coffee Maker Right For You? Our No-Nonsense Review

While we love our single-serve coffee machines and all the other lovely electrical gadgets out there, there are times when what we want is a simple, straightforward, sturdy machine that is a leader in its field.

Since sustainability is increasingly important, it can sometimes be useful to remind ourselves of some of the machines out there that don’t require power. The Rok espresso maker fits the bill perfectly.

Presenting The Rok EspressoGC Coffee Machine

As a company, Rok has over 20 years of experience in the field. This is an updated version of the original manual espresso maker. This machine was originally on the market as the Presso, in around 2004; it became the Rok in 2012.

The Rok EspressoGC has a very distinctive look and its design would fit in perfectly with any décor. The machine has a polished metal finish and the metal components are guaranteed for 10 years – yes, we really did say 10 years, so make sure you file your receipt somewhere safe.

ROK EspressoGC Coffee Maker

ROK EspressoGC
  • Includes a single spout portafilter, a detachable plastic double spout attachment, and a measuring cup
  • Upgraded piston gasket produces better pressure than original ROK
  • Lightweight and Portable at 3.5 lbs and 11.5 inches tall
  • Extract crema-rich espresso easily by squeezing the GC's two arms down
  • Includes 10 Year Warranty on Metal Parts

The pressure chamber is made from a BPA-free glass composite. The shower screen is made from silicone, which makes for a pretty clean extraction. There are 4 keys on the back, so you know it’s secure and generally leak proof. The fact that the holes are smaller than on the older models also means you can rely on a precision placement for your coffee.

While it’s an ideal gadget for a full-size kitchen, it’s compact enough for other settings like an RV or dorm room, and will appeal to those who like to take control when they’re making espresso.

Features And Benefits Of The Rok EspressoGC

This is a very handsome machine. It measures 5.1 x 8.6 x 11.8 inches and weighs less than 5 pounds. Shipping adds around another 1.5 pounds to the package. This compact machine is less than 12 inches high. The four rubber legs under the base of the GC mean it’s very stable while you use it, as long as it’s on a level surface.

This machine comes with a single spout stainless steel portafilter, a detachable plastic double spout with attachment, and a measuring cup. The water reservoir is plastic; there’s a ten-year warranty on the metal parts.

The piston gauntlet has been upgraded so that the pressure is much better than on the original Rok, and the pressure chamber has improved insulation. This model requires less force to extract than previous versions.

There is no electricity required – this is a manual brewing machine, and you will need to apply a reasonable amount of force on the arms, although don’t overdo it. There is a storage tin to make it easy to transport, although we wouldn’t suggest taking it on an airplane unless it’s your only carry on item. It is, however, ideal for road travel, camping, or as part of your kitchen kit in an RV or on a houseboat.

What You Need To Make The Most Of Your Rok EspressoGC

You’re completely in control with the Rok Espresso GC, making it especially suitable for those who enjoy the craft of making the perfect espresso. You choose the brewing temperature, so that, in general, this machine will give you espresso as hot (or not) as you like, with excellent crema.

As we’ve mentioned already, it will probably take you a few attempts to get the hang of crafting the perfect artisan espresso. It’s a good idea to warm the cups and water tank first – one technique is to pour boiling water into the vessels first, before you even start the brewing cycle. Empty the water before you start on the real business of making the espresso with fresh water at the temperature that’s right for you.

Some owners have also found warming the portafilter helps them to brew the perfect espresso. In this case, the portafilter needs to be placed inside a container that can cope with boiling water. After heating, empty the portafilter over the sink, then dry with a paper towel or similar.

Before you start brewing, make sure the coffee is tamped tight in the filter, and you are likely to find pre-ground coffee is not really fine enough to generate the pressure needed for espresso release. Ideally, you need freshly ground coffee beans.

You will also get better results if you weigh your coffee – or at least use the same spoon or measuring device, to keep it consistent.

Can You Make An Authentic Espresso With The Rok EspressoGC?

While the instruction manual suggests a two-step extraction, this may result in a brew that’s a little bitter yet a little weak for some tastes.

Once you get the hang of it, this machine is super-easy to use. You just fill the water reservoir, lift the arms, lock the portafilter in place, and plunge the arms downward, slowly and gently. This technique should extract a crema-rich espresso.

It might sound elementary, but press out all the water before you remove the portafilter after you’ve made a shot, otherwise it can get a little messy!

Pros And Cons Of The Rok EspressoGC Coffee Machine

What we really like

The machine looks great and is delightfully light and compact

You don’t need any electricity for this machine

The crema is authentic

There’s a really long warranty on the metal parts

We love the carrying tin

It’s pretty environmentally friendly

You’re definitely in control

What we don't like

✗ The machine takes quite a lot of getting used to

✗ The reservoir is plastic

✗ You need to exert just the right amount of gentle force (within reason) when you’re bringing down the arms on the device

While opinions vary a little on this machine, for every negative review from a Rok EspressoGC user, there are around three positive reviews of the machine. Users speak very highly of the crema in particular, and the fact that it helps them stay in touch with the artisan aspects of making coffee. The manual milk frother that comes with the machine isn’t the most sophisticated in the world, although it does the job.

Users also liked the fact that it’s a very easy machine to clean – you simply need to rinse it out, and you should find there’s relatively little residue left on the screen.

Alternatives To The Rok EspressoGC

We always like to explore our options when we’re deciding on a coffee machine, and our review of the Rok is no exception to the rule. We’ve taken a look at three alternatives in a little more detail.

Flair Espresso Maker

The Flair Espresso Maker is another manual machine for those who like to be completely in control of the whole espresso process. It’s the only machine we’re aware of at the time of writing with a detachable brewing head. The press stand is made of aluminum and the brewing head is made of stainless steel. This machine comes with a metal carrying case and a five-year warranty.

It tends to run a little more expensive than the EspressoGC, but like the Rok EspressoGC, there is no need for electricity.  The dimensions are 12 x 6 x 10 inches and it weighs around 5 pounds.

The NISPIRA Syphon Coffee Maker

This opulent looking coffee maker from NISPIRA is another alternative to the Rok EspressoGC. The body is gold and chrome in color, with a wooden board; the water retainer is made of stainless steel. The glass for the alcohol burner is, necessarily, heat-resistant. Those who are interested in watching the chemistry of coffee at work may find this particularly appealing.

The dimensions of this coffee maker are 12.2 x 5 x 15.7 inches and it weighs just over 5.5 pounds. The machine comes with a measuring spoon and cup. This machine is usually a little cheaper than the Rok EspressoGC, although not by very much.

Nispira Belgian Belgium Luxury Royal Family Balance Syphon Siphon Coffee Maker Gold Color, 1 set
  • NISPIRA Syphon Coffee Maker for 3-5 Espresso Cups (500ML- about 17 OZ)
  • Beautiful Gold/ Chrome Color body with brown wooden board base
  • Stainless steel water retainer, and plug
  • Heat-resistance glass, alcohol burner. Plated balancing shaft, and handle, measuring spoon and cup.
  • Manufactured by NISPIRA. Solely Distributed by Coffee and Toy.

Rok Manual Espresso Maker

Our final alternative is another product from Rok – Rok Manual Espresso Maker. Like the Rok EspressoGC, it looks lovely; its dimensions are 14 x 14 x 14 inches and it weighs just under 8 pounds. It ships with a case, a coffee scoop to allow you to measure your coffee accurately, a manual milk frother and extra gaskets for the water chamber.

The body is made of aluminum and this machine is easy to clean, but it is considerably more expensive than the EspressoGC and it’s a little tricky to see why.

Conclusion – Do We Recommend The Rok EspressoGC?

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.4/5)

Using the Rok EspressoGC to make your coffee is not unlike a ritual: it reminds you that making coffee is an art at least as much as it is a science.

Although it’s not a cheap machine it’s not overly expensive either. The Rok EspressoGC is a very good value for money and, used correctly, should last you a long time. It is true that you do need to invest a little time and effort to learn how to use this machine, and you also need to allow time to brew your espresso – but then, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
