The Keurig K475 Vs. K575 – Which One Will Win In This Never-Ending Battle?

by | May 6, 2019

If you’re serious about your coffee, the chances are you will know about Keurig. Even if you haven’t taken the plunge and bought your very own Keurig coffee machine just yet, you may well have encountered these machines, and the choice of drinks available, in an office or business setting.

Founded in 1992 in Massachusetts, the company takes its name from the Dutch word for excellence. Initially, their machines were particularly popular in medium-sized and larger offices, but in 2004 the firm launched smaller machines aimed at the domestic market, and perfect for kitchen counters, dorm rooms, and smaller offices.

Which One Is Better?

Our Winner: Keurig K475 (4.4/5)

Whatever your taste in hot beverages, with over 500 varieties to choose from, the likelihood is there will be one to suit you. They’re an especially attractive option if you love to wake up to the taste sensation of your favorite coffee shop experience, combined with the convenience of enjoying that coffee shop choice at your leisure in your own home. Even if it’s two am (yes, I’m a night owl).

Both the Keurig K475 and the Keurig K575 are dependable coffee makers, with thousands of happy customers. So, in the decision over Keurig K475 vs. Keurig K575, which machine should you choose?

Presenting…The Keurig K475

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.4/5)

The Keurig K475 Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker, to call it by its full name, brews a 12 oz beverage as standard, although you can choose a smaller cup, at 4oz, 6oz, 8oz or 10 oz. The strength control lets you choose exactly how you want your drink, although there are recommended settings for a cup of coffee, and for carafes if you are using the appropriately sized pods available.

You also get a choice of five temperature settings with this machine, so whether you like your coffee steaming hot or “just nice” as my mom used to say, this coffee maker will meet your needs; and those of any other coffee fiends in the family. The K475 also offers a cold drink option.

As standard, the machine comes with 6 K-Cup pods to get you started, a water filter handle, and two filters. The water reservoir is removable, to make filling up as easy as possible. The water reservoir size, 70oz, means you can get 8 or more cups out of one refill before you even need to think about adding more water – ideal for those hectic mornings.

This fully programmable coffee maker does, however, let you wake up or snooze in peace, knowing the coffee will be ready when you are. It also has an auto-off feature. You’ll like the digital clock too, and the clear color touch screen display. And while it’s not the quietest machine out there, what could be nicer than waking up to sounds of freshly brewing coffee?

Pros & Cons Of The Keurig K475

What we really like

Very easy to program

Small physical footprint

Solid weight for its size

Choice of 5 brewing temperatures

Allows you to make coffee, chocolate and cocoa as well as coffee

A lot of coffee machine for the price

What we don't like

✗ Can be a little noisy

✗ Slightly fewer features than the K575

The Keurig 2.0 K575 Coffee Maker

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4/5)

The Keurig K575 Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker is a newer model. It remains a sleek, modern and attractive machine in terms of design and also has a small physical footprint, identical to the K475.  It offers standard brew sizes of 12 oz and an 80 oz water reservoir, slightly higher in capacity than the Keurig K475 Plus. You can choose the strength of your drink – strong is recommended for coffee, and the “hot water on demand” feature is rather nice.

It is completely programmable, with an auto-off option. In terms of colors, it only comes in platinum but it has a nifty modern feature – you can change the wallpaper shade to blend in with your decor. This machine would suit a slightly larger family, a single or couple household, a college student who likes entertaining friends in the dorm room, or small businesses with around 10 staff members.

Pros & Cons Of The Keurig K575 Platinum

What I really like

80 oz water reservoir

The extra large LCD screen

Hot water on demand feature

Nightlight allows you to have different color wallpapers to coordinate with your kitchen

What I don't like

✗ Only available in platinum

✗ More lightweight than the K475

✗ Quite pricey for what you get – those extra features cost a lot

Key Features Of The Keurig K475 Vs. The Keurig K575

Whichever of these two Keurig machines you select, you can rest easy in the knowledge you’ll get a well-designed, good-looking single-serve coffee machine that will look great on your kitchen counter. Quite apart from their aesthetic appeal, either of these machines will allow you to cater for differing tastes, and provide a fresh, aromatic cup of very palatable coffee, a flavorsome cup of tea, or a cup of chocolate or cocoa, in under a minute.

Both the K475 and the K575 have a really modern look, as well as packing a lot of features into a small physical footprint. The manufacturers have made great use of vertical design so there should be enough room to have this take pride of place on even the most crowded of kitchen counters, as long as you have enough clearance space above it to raise the lid to insert the pods.

What’s the same?

Both machines are compatible with the Keurig accessory range: K-mug, K-cup and K-carafe pods. As with most Keurig accessories, you will need to purchase the K-carafe itself and the other items separately. Both coffee makers brew a 12 oz beverage as standard, with options for 4oz, 6oz, 8oz and 10oz, or carafes of 22, 26, or 30oz. Both machines have high altitude settings and both will nag you gently when it’s time to run a descaling cycle.

It’s true that if you’re an espresso fan, these coffee machines probably wouldn’t be the best option for you, but for most of us, the wide range of flavored coffees and specialty teas and chocolate/cocoa drinks would offer more than enough variety.

And then, of course, there’s the fact that choosing a Keurig Single Serve coffee machine means you can enjoy your favorite coffee shop taste whenever you like. Even when it’s three am and the nearest coffee shop is several miles away.

The Keurig K475 vs. The K575 – What’s Different?

The K475 has a very slightly smaller screen than the K575, at 2.4 inches compared to 2.8 inches, although even the smaller screen is still perfectly legible and functional. The K575 has a slightly larger water reservoir, at 80 oz and the option to change the color of the digital wallpaper so it fits in with your décor. The additional features on the K575, though, attractive as they are if you’re a gadget lover, don’t really warrant the extra cost: the Keurig K575 Plus is considerably more expensive than the K475.

What’s Not Quite So Good About Them

While the horizontal physical footprint is small, you need a relatively large amount of space above the machines to insert the pods – around 20 inches. The drip tray holds up to 8 oz of fluid but there are no automatic sensors – choose your cup with care, as once you’ve asked the machine to dispense your drink, it will dispense just the amount of fluid you’ve requested.

Neither the K475 nor the Keurig K575 comes as standard with the carafe or other accessories, and while they may not break the bank, exactly, these accessories do not exactly run cheap. They are, however, compatible with just about every Keurig coffee machine, so if you ever upgrade again in the future, the accessories should transfer just fine.

You do also need to make sure you replace the filters regularly – monthly is recommended.

Battle Of The Keurigs –  Should You Choose The K475 Or The K575?

Both machines are the same size; both use K-cups; and both brew great coffee in a very short time. Both are part of the Keurig Plus range. Both have clear LCD displays, making programming and choosing your drink super-easy.

The K475 is a tried-and-tested coffee machine. It offers a lot of coffee machine for a very good price, with a generous 70 oz water reservoir, which would be more than enough for most domestic users (and these machines are, generally, aimed at domestic users). It comes with a great starter pack and is straightforward to set up and program.

The K575 is also a very good option; its water reservoir is even more generous; it also comes with a useful starter pack and is equally easy to set up and program.

K475 Vs. K575 – The Final Verdict

Our Winner: Keurig K475 (4.4/5)

Although they are very comparable coffee machines, the Keurig K475 wins it for me by a relatively narrow margin. It’s a very slightly heavier machine, so very slightly sturdier; and I know it’s been around a little longer, so there is plenty of help out there for any troubleshooting needs. (Although  to be fair, Keurig is known for their responsive customer service across the board.)

The K475 is also a little more versatile when it comes to brewing tea, hot chocolate, cocoa and cold drinks. And finally, from a cost-effectiveness point of view, the K475 undoubtedly has the edge; so, while the 475 gets a 4.4-star rating, the K575 gets 4.0.

So the only remaining question now is, which K-Cup should I sample next? Somehow, I have a feeling there’s a Mocha with my name on it just calling out from the kitchen.
