Keurig K200 Plus Review – The Highs And The Lows [Series 2.0 New Release]

Keurig K200 Plus Review – The Highs And The Lows [Series 2.0 New Release]

The Keurig company regularly updates its coffee makers, at least once a year. So you’re pretty much guaranteed to find at least a couple you’ll like.  We must confess we’re very taken with the Keurig K200 Plus. You know we love to try out new additions in the world of coffee making and drinking, so we were delighted to explore this new addition to the Keurig Plus series. (Did you know the Keurig company founders got the idea for the company name from the Dutch word for “excellence”, by the way?)

Making The Acquaintance Of The Keurig K200 Plus

This machine is well-designed, super-easy to use, and very compact. The updated technology means the information on the K-Cup, K-Mugs and K-Carafe pods is read in a couple of seconds, adjusting the output accordingly. You’re therefore assured of a perfect beverage every time.

  • K-Cup Pod brew sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10 oz. K-Mug Pod brew sizes: 12, 14, 16 oz. K-Carafe Pod brew sizes: 22, 26, 30 oz.
  • 40 oz. removable water reservoir is located behind the brewer to help save space
  • Strength Control Settings: Strength control means you can brew your way - strong or regular - to suit your taste
  • Black and white touch screen makes it easy to adjust settings

One of the nicest updates is that the removable 40-ounce water reservoir now sits behind the brewing mechanism, so it looks sleeker than ever on your kitchen counter. The black-and-white digital display is extremely simple to use and reset. There is now an additional option for specialty drinks.

How Much Can You Brew?

One important factor in deciding which coffee maker to purchase is the type of coffee you can brew, and how much you can brew at once. We’re pretty sure you’ll be delighted with the range of options this coffee maker offers. If you’re using K-Cups, you have a choice of 4, 6, 8, or 10 fluid ounces; K-Mugs offer 12, 14 or 16 ounces; and the K-Carafe pods are 22, 24 or 30 ounces. You can also vary the strength settings, but you do need to buy the carafe separately.

What Can You Brew?

If you’re thinking about buying a Keurig coffee maker, you probably already know you can choose from well over 500 varieties of beverages. If you’re new to Keurig, the sheer width of the range might surprise you – from high-street coffee shops to long-established global household names. The Keurig 2.0 technology means whipping up a cup of delicious coffee, refreshing tea, or relaxing hot cocoa is simplicity itself. When the coffee machine reads the lid of every K-Cup, K-Mug or K-Carafe it dispenses just the right amount of water, at just the right temperature. This model also has a separate setting for specialty beverages – if chai, hot cocoa or even mocha are your delights.

How To Get The Best Brew With The Keurig K200 Plus

Keurig recommends using filtered or bottled water, although the machine has a very effective integrated descaling program. This is especially important if your water is high in mineral content. The machine will nag you to descale until you complete the cycle – you can “snooze” the function but it will remind you in six weeks’ time. Grounds do occasionally get stuck in the needle, so the machine ships with a brewer maintenance accessory.

How Well Will This Machine Complement My Decor?

If a coffee machine can be called svelte, this coffee maker is definitely svelte. It measures 15.2 by 11 by 16.6 inches and weighs 10.3 pounds after shipping is removed. Depending on the vendor, this machine is available in seven different colors. Our favorite is the sleek black edition, which complements any kitchen. The drip tray is removable, meaning you can slip a travel mug under the dispenser for coffee-on-the-go. You also need to remove the drip tray for carafes. You can only brew a carafe if the flask itself is perfectly in place and only Keurig’s own carafes will work.

Other Features Of The K200 Plus Keurig

This model typically ships with a Keurig 2.0 water filter, descaling solution, and a starter pack of K-cups. The water filter is simple to install and change, with replacements readily available. We can’t overstate how easy this machine is to use. The “touch of a button” produces great tasting coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot cocoa, chai or dozens of other drinks. The typical heating and dispensing time is under a minute. The black and white touch screen also makes it a snip to change settings. What you don’t see, when listening to those quietly reassuring brewing noises, is what’s going on under the hood, as it were. The piston and air pumps work super hard to make sure your drink tastes great every time. This model isn’t the cheapest in the Keurig range but is very good value for money.

The Good Aspects And The Not-So-Good Aspects

No coffee maker is perfect, so we’re just highlighting the best aspects of this coffee machine, and the least endearing features. All Keurig coffee makers are known for the range of drinks available and their well-engineered proprietary technology. Within the range, however, there’s a wide choice of options, with different brew sizes, dimensions and special features available. So here’s how this machine shapes up.

What we really like

The great choice of brew sizes

Really easy to use and change settings

The specialty drinks option

✔  It looks super-smart and up-to-the-minute

The water reservoir is behind the brewer – great use of space

Keenly priced

What we don't like

✗ No auto-on feature

✗ You can’t vary the temperature control

✗ You need a good amount of clearance above the lid

This model is a relatively recent addition to the Keurig offering, so the reviews are not yet as numerous as for some older machines. Those who’ve opted for this machine, however, are pretty unanimous in how they feel about it – and that’s overwhelmingly positive. Users praise the ease of use, the range of brew sizes, and the fact that it looks great. You still get to choose from the great range of Keurig K-Cup pods out there, but there’s now the very welcome “specialty drinks” button.

What Other Coffee Machines Might You Consider?

Although we love the Keurig K200 Plus Series 2.0, we think it’s only fair to look at a few others. This will let you compare and contrast, so you can make an informed choice.

Keurig 2.0 K200

The Keurig K200 typically runs a little cheaper than the newer Keurig K200 Series 2.0; we checked out the quirky turquoise one. There are 9 brew sizes, including carafe, with a 40-ounce water tank. You can control the strength of your drink. It measures 15 x 9 x 13.7 inches high. You do need to make sure you have an extra 4 inches of clearance above that so you can add, remove and change pods. This is a very light machine, at 7.5 pounds. As with the Keurig K200 Series 2.0, the water filter is super-easy to install: just slip it into the top of the machine where you add water. Why not check out this Keurig 2.0 K200 for yourself?

The Lowdown On The Keurig K55 Single-Serve Coffee Maker: Our No Frills Review

The Lowdown On The Keurig K55 Single-Serve Coffee Maker: Our No Frills Review

For many of us, Keurig means coffee – especially when it comes to convenience. The company has such a wide range of single-serve coffee machines, updated so regularly, that there is a model to suit everyone.

Deciding which Keurig is the best option for you can, however, be tricky. With such a range of machines, how do you go about working out which one should take pride of place on your kitchen counter? Our no-nonsense, straightforward review of the Keurig K55 is here to help you compare this model to other Keurig machines and choose the best option.

Let Us Introduce The Keurig K55

The Keurig K55 is attractively designed, with a sleek black finish and modern looking buttons. There’s a reasonable range of brew sizes and a decently sized water reservoir for a small household. The entire machine has a small footprint, although it’s not the smallest in the Keurig range.

  • LARGE 48 oz. WATER RESERVOIR: Allows you to brew 6+ cups before having to refill, saving you time and simplifying your morning routine. The water reservoir is removable, making it easy to refill...
  • DESCALING: An important part of cleaning your Keurig brewer. This process helps to remove calcium deposits, or scale, that can build up inside a coffee maker over time. Please refer to our descaling...
  • AUTO-OFF: An auto-off feature is easily programmed to turn off your coffee maker after it has been idle for two hours, helping to save energy.

One of the major attractions of Keurig machines is that you know you’re always guaranteed a fresh-tasting cup of coffee, tea, cocoa, hot chocolate or indeed anything else you might like to drink to refresh your palate. Now let’s examine the Kuerig K55 Single-Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker more carefully.

What Drinks Options Do You Have With The Keurig K55?

The Keurig K55 offers three standard sizes of drink: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, and 10 ounces, all represented visually by cups on the top panel. For larger servings, simply employ a little basic math: so, for a 12-ounce travel mug, for instance, just brew 2 6-ounce servings of coffee, and combine. You can decide how many K-cup pods to use to suit your taste.

You can’t change the brewing temperature on this model. Keurig has set 192 to 193 degrees Fahrenheit as the optimum temperature for coffee. To ensure your drink doesn’t cool too quickly, hacks include making sure your cup is warm before you brew, via a few seconds in the microwave or a splash of boiling water.

The Range Of Beverages

We’ve already touched on the fact that drinks made with a Keurig always come out fresh, hot, and authentic-tasting. The sheer range of beverages you can obtain for Keurig machines is also a major draw.

The range isn’t only restricted to coffee, of course; with the K55 Keurig, there are blends of tea, hot cocoa or chocolate, and herbal infusions to enjoy. If you’re an iced beverage fan, fear not: it takes a little imagination and a tiny amount of preparation, but you can even use the Keurig® K55 Coffee Maker to make iced coffee.

Just have your crushed or block ice ready in a separate container, brew your drink as usual, and then pour over. Hey, presto! Instant iced coffee, brewed just as you like it.

Most of the drinks available for Keurig machines are relatively mild tasting, so if it’s a stronger drink you require, we suggest you buy the stronger blends, use the smaller cup size, or both. The Keurig K55 also doubles as a plain water heater, great if you’d like to quickly rehydrate soup, oats or noodles.

Care And Maintenance Of The Keurig K55

Most of the machines produced by Keurig are straightforward to keep clean, and the Keurig K55 is no exception. The water reservoir is removable, so you can descale it and refill it quickly and easily. The water reservoir has a capacity of 48 fluid ounces.

Regular descaling is essential if you want to keep your coffee tasting as fresh as possible, and if you live in a hard water area, even more so. There’s a super-simple “Descale” button on this machine to help kickstart the process.

What Else Do You Need To Know About The Keurig K55?

We’ve mentioned the delightfully small physical footprint of the Keurig K55 already. To be a little more precise, to accommodate this nifty little machine, allow 9.8 by 3 by 13.3 inches. That 13.3-inch clearance is for the machine when the lid is closed, so you will need to allow a few more inches when you’re swapping or removing pods.

One of the most modern aspects of this machine is its auto-off feature. If it’s been left standing idle for two hours (heaven forbid!), then the Kurig K55 will turn itself off. It’s also pretty light, weighing around 12 pounds. We also really, really like the “Add water” button.

Pros And Cons Of The Keurig K55

Just like any coffee machine, the Keurig K55 is not (quite) perfect. It has its bonus points and its less-than-perfect aspects. So we’ve been as objective as we can.

To help you decide if this is the right machine for you, we’ve made a list of the things we like about this model, and the aspects we’re not so keen on. Of course, ultimately, it’s your choice.

What we really like

Smart-looking and contemporary

Good sized buttons with clear text

Straightforward user interface

Small physical footprint

The black finish will go with any style of décor

Truly great range of K-Cup pods available

Super-high levels of convenience

What we don't like

✗ You only get three brew sizes as standard

✗ The water reservoir is on the small side

✗ The brewing temperature is pretty much set in stone

As a relatively niche model, there are fewer reviews of the Keurig K55 than for some others in the range. Having said that, however, out of every 10 owners, around 6.5 were delighted, or at least very happy indeed, with the machine.

Yes, we know. You can’t have 6.5 people. It’s that math thing again. Essentially, over 60% of owners either loved this model or really, really liked it. Those who liked it were especially pleased with its convenience and ease of use. Those who were a little less enthusiastic mentioned the brewing temperature as a factor that affected their views.

Alternatives To The Keurig K55

The K55 is a compact and attractive machine, but what if you’re not entirely sure it’s what you’re looking for? You’ve definitely decided it’s still a Keurig that you’d like to grace your kitchen counter, but why not take a look at a couple of others first, before making your final decision?

Keurig K50

The Keurig K50 All Purposed Coffee Maker runs a little pricier than the Keurig K55 Classic, but still represents excellent value for money. You can brew coffee, tea, chocolate or hot cocoa, specialty infusions and coffee blends, and iced beverages. Again, for iced beverages, you do need to apply a little imagination and you need to make sure your preparation is up to par.

  • Brews 6 oz. , 8 oz. , and 10 oz. Sizes

  • Removable 48 oz. Water reservoir | indicator lights
  • Programmable auto off feature | removable drip tray

Like the K55, you can brew standard-sized cups of 6 ounces, 8 ounces or ten ounces. The brew time is short, less than a minute, and, as with the K55, the removable water reservoir holds 48 ounces. This machine has a programmable auto-off feature, while the removable drip tray means that you can slip a smaller sized travel mug under the spout for easy coffee-on-the-go.

Keurig K250

The Keurig K250 Coffee Maker is another great alternative option to the Keurig K55 if you need help making up your mind. Like the K50, this model is usually a little more expensive than the K55, but there are a few more features that explain why.

To begin with, you can choose how strong you’d like your coffee, although the temperature remains set. You also get a choice of 9 brew sizes with this machine.

  • Strength Control:  A strength control setting allows you to brew a bolder cup using any K-Cup pod brew size
  • A black and white touch screen makes it easy to brew a fresh, great tasting cup in under a minute

This machine tends to be a little more expensive than the K55 Classic Model, although there are a couple of extra features. As well as offering you the chance to choose the strength of your coffee, this model comes in a truly delightful range of colors, depending on your stockist. So if you’ve just redecorated your kitchen in peacock blue (or teal), there’s a color to blend in.

This model measures 15 by 9 by 13.7 inches. You will need to make sure, as is the case for most Keurig coffee makers designed in this way, that you have at least 17.6 inches of clearance above the lid. This is essential so that you can easily change, insert, or remove pods. The weight of this coffee maker is 7.5 pounds, increasing to 11.75 pounds once shipping materials are taken into account. This model does not usually come with a starter pack of pods, however, and the shut-off is not automated.

Keurig K-Select Coffee Maker

The K-Select Keurig Coffee Maker is, again, a little more expensive than the K55, but comes with strength control and hot water on demand. The finish is matte black. There is a choice of 4 standard brew sizes: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, 10 ounces, and 12 ounces. You can vary the strength and intensity of your drink with the K-Select.

  • SIMPLE BUTTON CONTROLS: Just insert a pod, select your desired cup size, and brew a great-tasting cup in under a minute.

This is one of the quieter models available so if you have housemates, relatives, friends or colleagues who find noise disturbing, this might be a particularly good machine to consider. There’s a programmable auto-off feature, and this machine alerts you when you need to descale.

It’s simple to use, without too many unnecessary buttons. The removable water reservoir is larger than on some of the other small Keurig machines, holding 52 ounces. With the drip tray removed, this machine can accommodate travel mugs up to 7.4 inches in height.

Conclusion And Our Rating

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

Keurig generally inspires loyalty. The range of drinks available is pretty much unparalleled. In recent years, with the advent of reusable K-Cup pods, you can even add your own choice of coffee blend or loose leaf tea and help keep environmental waste to a minimum.

This machine is so small and sweet, you’ll barely notice it’s there unless you’re using it to brew a delicious cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. This is one of the many reasons we’re giving the Keurig K55 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker an overall rating of 4.5 stars.

Keurig K50 Coffee Maker Balanced Review: Is It The Best Choice For You?

When you think of single-serve coffee machines, there are a few players that you know will always deliver. And for many of us, Keurig means coffee – especially when convenience is top of our list. The company makes such a great range of single-serve coffee machines that there is one to suit everyone.

It isn’t always easy, however, to decide which one is the best option for you. Our no-nonsense, straightforward Keurig K50 review is here to help you choose.

Keurig K50 Coffee Maker

The Keurig K50 All Purposed Coffee Maker is a smart, compact, modern-looking machine. This petite coffee maker has quite a “no-nonsense” look about it, with a simple-to-use design, a decent choice of brew sizes, and a reasonably-sized water reservoir.

There is no confusion about where to place the cup or the pod, and it’s especially suited to small kitchens, RVs, camping, dorm rooms. Small workplaces will also find it a convenient option to welcome guests and keep staff happy.

You know with Keurig you will always get a fresh cup of coffee, tea, cocoa or hot chocolate, and using the Keurig K50 without a pod also allows you to use it for hot water only. This versatile approach means you can also use it to rehydrate noodles, oats, soup, or other dried snack pot meals. So let’s have a look at the Keurig K50 coffee maker in a little more detail.

Keurig K50: Drinks Options

One of the major attractions of buying a Keurig machine is the sheer range of drinks available. The range includes many authentic tasting flavors from high street coffee shops and global hot beverage brands.

The range isn’t limited only to coffee either: with the Keurig K50, you can also brew tea, hot cocoa or chocolate, and, increasingly, specialty drinks. You can even make iced beverages – have your ice ready in a separate container, brew your drink as normal, then simply pour the liquid over the ice.

You get three standard choices of brew size with the K50 Keurig: 6 ounces, 8 ounces, and 10 ounces, with 6 ounces providing the strongest drink. For larger cup sizes, say 16 ounces, you can brew one batch at 6 ounces and one at 10 ounces, making sure you use the appropriate number of capsules to suit your taste.

Most of the pods you can buy are relatively mild, so if you’re keener on the stronger blends you’ll need to buy the more intense blends, use the smaller mug option, or both.

The coffee is generally at a decent temperature, around 192 to 193 degrees Fahrenheit, which is what Keurig regards as the optimum temperature. There is some good-natured debate about precisely what the best temperature for brewing coffee. This model is compatible with any K-cup and can whip up a brew in under a minute.

Design, Care And Maintenance Of The Keurig K50

This is one of the simpler machines in the range; there are no programming options, and the machine itself has a no-fuss black plastic section where the pods go, and an obvious location to show you where to put your cup. The dimensions of the Keurig K50 are 9.8 by 13 by 13.3 inches, and it weighs 7.6 pounds. This increases to around 12.25 pounds when you factor in shipping.

The Keurig K50 comes with a 48-ounce water reservoir. It’s removable to allow for easy cleaning and refilling, and there are indicator lights to help you keep a check on when it needs to be refilled. As with most of Keurig’s machines, and indeed, most coffee machines of this type, it is necessary to descale regularly to keep the coffee maker operating well and ensure your coffee stays great tasting. That’s especially true if you live in a hard water area.

What Else Do You Need To Know About The Keurig K50?

There is an auto-off option, which can be programmed. The removable drip tray means a shorter travel mug can easily be accommodated, and the tray slips out easily.

This machine is far from silent, but it is relatively quiet, for a coffee maker. This machine does require one lithium-ion battery.

Pros And Cons Of The Keurig K50

As with any coffee machine, there are good aspects and not-so-good aspects of the Keurig K50. There is no absolutely perfect coffee maker out there, and so much depends on your own situation and personal tastes.

Well, we’ve given the matter some thought, and the pros and cons of the machine are listed below. We hope they’ll help you make your mind up.

What we really like

Extremely easy to use

Decent sized reservoir for a one or two-person household or small office

It’s very compact

Very low-maintenance when it comes to cleaning and care

It looks very modern

What we don't like

✗ Even without the drip tray, it doesn’t take tall travel mugs

✗ You can’t change the brewing temperature

✗ For strong, specialty or iced beverages, you’ll need to adapt your brewing technique

Of the Keurig K50 reviews, 80% of those owning this model were pleased, with almost 70% being very pleased. Around 12% of owners expressed disappointment, although in many cases their ratings were related to the fact the Keurig K50 quite different from older machines they had owned. Overall, there are around four times as many positive reviews out there for this machine as there are negatives.

Alternatives To The Keurig K50

The Keurig Hot K50 is a very smart, compact machine, but what if it isn’t quite what you’re looking for? You know it’s still a Keurig that you’d like to add to your kitchen counter, but you just want to take a couple of others into consideration first, before making your final choice.

Keurig K55

Keurig K55 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker, Black
16 Reviews
Keurig K55 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker, Black
  • The Classic Keurig K-Cup Single Serve Coffee Maker. Includes 4 K-Cup pods and a water filter handle + 2 water filters to help your beverages taste their best.
  • BREWS MULTIPLE K-CUP POD SIZES: (6, 8, 10 oz.) the most popular K-Cup pod brew sizes. Use the 6oz brew size to achieve the strongest brew.

The Keurig K55 machine is a little more expensive than the Kuerig K50. It generally ships with 4 K-Cup pods to get you started, a water filter handle, and two spare water filters. Like the Keurig 50, you have a choice of 6, 8, or 10 ounces as the standard brew sizes, and there is a 48-ounce removable reservoir.

One of the main differences is that this machine has an auto-off feature; this coffee maker turns itself off if it’s been idle for two hours. It weighs in the region of 12 pounds, and size-wise, you will need to make sure you have 9.8 by 3 by 13.3 inches available. You need a few more inches of clearance above the 13.3 inches when you’re changing the pods.

We already compared this machine with the Keurig K250, the K45, the K50 and the Keurig K-Select and have to say this model is definitely worth the money.

  • 9 brew sizes (including carafe sizes)
  • 40 oz. Water Reservoir
  • Strength Control
  • Black and White Touch Display
  • Compact Size

The Keurig K200 is another alternative to the Keurig Classic K50 that you might want to consider. The price point of this machine is typically a little more expensive than the Keurig K-classic K50, and a little lower in price than the K55. With this machine, you can choose the strength of your drink, although not the temperature. There is a black and white touch display to guide you through your options.

It has a rather smaller water reservoir, which is removable to allow for easy filling and cleaning, and you have a choice of 9 brew sizes with this machine, including the carafe options. You do need to buy the carafe separately. The maximum height of travel mug you can use with this machine is around 5.5 inches.

The dimensions of this model are 15 by 9 by 13.7 inches: as with most of the Keurig coffee makers with this type of design, when the lid is open you need 17.6 inches of clearance to remove, insert or change pods. The device weighs 7.5 pounds or around 11.75 pounds with shipping. This model does not usually ship with pods and there is no auto shut-off. You will require 2 AAA batteries for this machine.

The machine performed well during our testing. It often outperformed the competing Keurig machines (the K50 model, the K425 and the K250).

If you would like to see all Keurig alternatives and the best picks of 2019, you can check our detailed guide with a comparison of all Keurig machines below.

Conclusion And Our Rating

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

In general, users are very loyal to Keurig once they’ve tried out a model or two. You get a great choice of drinks, the machines are ultra-convenient, and if you choose a model like the Keurig K50, you need hardly any space at all to snuggle one into your kitchen.

For that, and many other reasons, the Keurig K 50 gets a 4.5-star rating from us. So with that in mind, it must be time for a brew or two!

This compact coffee maker would be especially suitable for a small to medium household with maybe 4 to 6 members, depending on how much coffee or tea those members like to drink. It might also be a good option for a one or two-person workplace, a salon or mechanic’s office, a student’s dorm room or a lecturer’s office, or be a great option for a couple or two friends on an RV journey or in a tiny house.

It would also make a smart Christmas present, graduation, house-warming or Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift. It’s an excellent entry model and a great introduction to the Keurig range.

Presenting the Keurig K250

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4/5)

This is another Keurig single-serve coffee machine which uses K-cup pod technology. The Keurig K250 is another compact little coffee machine from this long-established expert coffee machine manufacturer.

Depending on your stockist, it comes in a range of colorways, which can blend in with just about any décor. One of the most striking colors is the peacock blue, but other shades are available, including a gray-purple, a lighter blue, and red. With its small 40oz water reservoir, this would suit a single person or a small household or workplace where a small amount of coffee or tea is drunk.

You can use the K-Cup Universal Reusable Coffee Filter to improve sustainability

What we don't like

✗ No espresso option – the closest you’ll get is using one of the strong blends

✗ No programmable auto-on/auto-off option for this model

Keurig K250 vs. K475 – The Low Down

At least when it comes to single-serve, all Keurig machines are super versatile coffee makers. Users can choose from a great range of fantastic tasting coffees, teas, herbal infusions, and hot cocoa and chocolate.

Both machines allow you to choose from the wide variety of coffee shop favorites in the K-Cup pod and K-Carafe range although there’s no espresso or other specialist options – the closest to an espresso, for instance, would be to use one of the strongest blends.

Both the Keurig K475 Plus and the Keurig 250 can whip up a brew in less than a minute. Both are super easy to use and program, although while the K475 has an auto on/auto off feature that the Keurig® K250 coffee maker lacks.

Brew Sizes

Both machines allow users to brew up a variety of cup sizes or carafes. You can also use the Keurig K250 coffee maker and the K475 for hot water only – just don’t add a pod of any description. And if frappes and the like are more your cup of tea (or coffee), you can improvise by having a cup of ice ready, brewing your favorite drink, and pouring it over the ice cubes.

In terms of size of drinking vessels, you can fit a 12oz travel mug under the dispenser of either machine as long as you remove the drip tray first. One of the particularly nice features of both of these models is that they detect the size of pod you’re using and adjust both the brew size and temperature accordingly for you.

Temperature Settings And Strengths

You can’t change the temperature on either of these two models; while you have a choice of temperatures, they are set within parameters by Keurig themselves.  Temperature controls are set by Keurig, depending on whether you’re brewing a cup or a carafe. There are four temperature settings in total, and you can’t alter the temperature of your drink outside these parameters, which have been optimized by the manufacturers.

The factory temperature settings are 192 degrees Fahrenheit (89 degrees Celsius) for K-cup pods and 197 degrees Fahrenheit (92 degrees Celsius) for K-carafe pods.

The machine adjusts the temperature automatically for you, and the manufacturers usually point out that the final temperature of your drink often depends on what kind of cup you’re using. If you’re using a ceramic mug, for instance, the temperature may be a little lower than if you’re using an insulated travel cup.

thermo cup for keurig coffee

You can also adjust the strength of the brew if you prefer, to suit your individual palate and preferences. You can also vary the strength of your drink and there is a built-in energy saver option.

Neither of these machines is the quietest model on the market; you will definitely know when they’re brewing your drinks. Keurig themselves also suggest it’s not a great idea to use softened water as this can affect the operation of your device – stick to bottled or filtered water. You do also need to make sure you use authentic K-cups with these machines.

What Are The Differences?

One of the main differences between the two lies in the size of the water tank. The K250 has a 40oz water reservoir and offers a choice of brew sizes, 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 10oz for cups, and 22oz, 26oz or 30oz if it’s a carafe of coffee you’re making.

Meanwhile, the K475 has a much larger tank, at 70 oz. The water reservoir is also removable to allow for easy refilling and cleaning and maintenance.

Touch Screens

The Keurig K250 has a clear black and white touch screen to allow you to choose the drink you want while the equivalent interface on the K475 is color, so the contrast makes it that little bit easier to read.  The large color touch screen allows you to set the program for your favorite beverages, as well as an auto on/off option so you can set it to start brewing automatically.

Dimensions

There isn’t much in it when it comes to the size of these two coffee makers. Both machines are pretty compact, but if you’d like to compare the dimensions of the Keurig K250 vs. the K475 just to be sure, then the K-250 is just less than 14 inches high when shut. You need to allow a couple of extra inches of clearance when the lid is open for pod access. The cord is 37 inches long on this model.

If one of the reasons you’re thinking about purchasing a Keurig K475 is related to having a very compact kitchen area, then you’ll certainly need to know how much space to allow.

The K475 is not the smallest of Keurig’s many coffee machine models, but it’s still pretty nifty. You need to allow 10.5 inches wide by 13.3 inches deep and 13.2 inches high (again, 16 inches when you’re opening the lid to add or remove the pods). Weight-wise, it’s around 13 pounds (slightly more with the packaging).

Colors And Cosmetic Features

This is one of the other major differences; the Keurig 2.0 250 comes in a range of colors from beige to red, while the K475 only comes in black and silver. The Keurig K475 water reservoir also has a very fetching night light, which stays illuminated if the machine itself is on.

What’s In The Box – The Keurig K475 Vs. The Keurig K250

The K475 ships with a 6 K-cup variety coffee pack to get you started, 2 water filters and 1 water filter handle. The Kuerig K250 typically ships with 4 K-Cup pods, 2 water filters and a water filter handle. You also get a bottle of descaling solution to help you extend the life of your purchase. You do need to be aware that the carafe is a separate purchase no matter which of these machines you opt for, as is the K-Cup Universal Reusable Coffee Filter.

It takes under a minute to brew a cup of coffee with the Keurig K250 Plus, and if you’re making successive beverages, there’s usually around a 15-second delay in between. You get a choice of 5 different brew sizes: 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 10oz and 12oz if you’re using the standard K-cup pods, and a choice of 22oz, 26oz or 30oz if you’re using the carafe pods.

The drip tray isn’t attached to the K475, so you’re likely to find you have to reposition it against the machine quite regularly. While the touch screen is easy enough to turn on, it can be a little stubborn when it comes to turning it off.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Some owners have reported a slight plastic odor in the early days with the K250 Keurig, so you might want to run a couple of cleaning cycles before you use it for the first time. You can only use authentic Keurig pods with this machine, or the K-Cup Universal Reusable Coffee Filter is also compatible if you’d like to use your own ground coffee blends.

Cleaning is straightforward, and it is recommended that you clean the needles monthly to ensure your machine remains running smoothly. A thorough descale is suggested every 3 to 6 months. The filters in the tank for the Keurig® K250 usually last around 4-6 months on average.

The K475 takes around 75 to 90 seconds for the water to get hot enough for that first cup of coffee of the day, and around 40 to 60 seconds if you’re using it for the second time within about an hour.

Summing Up – Which One Should You Buy?

Our Winner: Keurig K475 (4.5/5)

So if you’re looking to make your first foray into the world of Keurig coffee makers, and these two models are on your shortlist, how do you choose between them? We’re assuming that you’ve set yourself a budget for that all-important first machine, or indeed, a replacement for an older model, or an extra purchase for an RV or cabin, or as a gift.

The Keurig 475 has a larger water capacity, an easier to read color screen and an auto-on/auto-off function. The K475 is a little more expensive than the Keurig K250 2.0, but not by much. You get a lot more machine for your money for those extra few dollars.

So, for our money, though there isn’t much between the two, we’re recommending the Keurig 2.0 K475 over the Keurig 2.0 K250.

Keurig K200 Vs. K425: The Complete Guide To Two Of Keurigs Highest Performers

Keurig K200 Vs. K425: The Complete Guide To Two Of Keurigs Highest Performers

Keurig has been making high-quality coffee machines since it launched its first brewers in 1998. Whatever your coffee machine you’re looking for there’s generally a Keurig machine that will fit your needs.

Which Machine Is Better?

Keurig K200

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.5/5)

The Keurig K200 is the perfect machine if ease of use is one of the most important factors you look for in a Coffee machine. The K200 comes with a 40 Oz Water Tank as standard, which will give you a few cups of coffee before you need to think about refilling the tank. The tank features a minimum water level line and a maximum water level line, so you’ll know exactly how much water to put into the tank.

Once you’ve filled the tank, you can switch the machine on and let it pre-heat, which will take around 3 minutes. One the machine has pre-heated you’ll be able to run through a cleaning cycle to make sure the machine is ready to use.

Keurig 2.0 K200

Sale
Keurig 2.0 Brewer, K200, Black (117644)
637 Reviews
Keurig 2.0 Brewer, K200, Black (117644)
  • 9 brew sizes (including carafe sizes)
  • 40 oz. Water Reservoir
  • Strength Control
  • Black and White Touch Display
  • Compact Size

The K200 will allow you to brew 9 different brew sizes including Carafe’s as well, but the main brew sizes are 4, 6, 8, and 10-ounce cups. The machine will generally brew your cup of coffee in under one minute.

It is a very compact machine that will fit well on top of any kitchen work surface, with it being one of the smaller Keurig machines on the market you should have no problem finding space for the machine.

The K200 Keurig has a 2-inch touch screen, which along with allowing you to select what brew size, allows you too also choose the strength of your brew, and it’s always nice having greater control over how strong you want your coffee to be.

Unfortunately, Keurig hasn’t included an auto on/off feature on the Keurig K200 Plus. It would have been great if they had, as this feature would improve the energy efficiency of the machine, and this is the one weakness of the Keurig K 200.

Pros and Cons Of The K200

What we really like

Easy to use machine

Compact design

Fits well into any space

✔ Reasonable price

What we don't like

✗ No ‘auto off’ feature

✗ May not be the best machine for large groups

✗ Relies on Keurig K-Pods

Keurig K425

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4.2/5)

The Keurig K425 is a larger machine than the Keurig 2.0 200. It comes with a 70 Oz Water Tank as standard. The K425 will allow you to choose from brew sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 oz, so there’s a nice broad range of brew sizes you can choose from. The K425 will also allow you to brew mug sizes ranging from 12-16 Oz and Carafe Sizes of 22 – 30 oz.

Keurig has included the K Carafe with the machine, as well as a variety of K Pods, but a reusable coffee filter is not included with this machine. The machine will allow you to brew Coffee, Tea and a variety of other beverages.

The Water Tank has a maximum and minimum fill line, so you’ll know exactly how much water to fill it with to ensure it has enough to work properly. The Water Tank is removable so it’s easy to clean.

The K425 does not come with a water filter, but one can be applied to the tank if you decide to buy one. If there is not enough water in the tank, a light will flash from the tank letting you know this is the case. A warning message will also appear on the display screen when there is not enough water in the tank.

It also comes with a removable drip tray, that will ensure any spills are captured, and as it’s removable, it’s easy to clean and take care of. The Pod holder is also removable so you can clean it regularly to ensure your machine remains hygienic.

When you turn the machine on, it will begin pre-heating, this is a relatively quick process. Once the machine has pre-heated, you will be able to access the customizable settings on the display screen. Here you will be able to select how strong you want your brew; you can select the temperature and select the size of the brew you want to make.

Also, through the display screen, you can set the time, either with a digital or analog display. One of the best features of the K425 is that it has an ‘auto on/off’ feature, this allows you to have control over when the machine turns on and when you want your machine to turn off. This will aid the energy efficiency of the machine and help you to do more at conserving energy.

The Keurig K200 Vs. The K425 – Key Features

Now we’ve had a look at both machines, its time to look at the similarities and differences to help you decide which machine suits you best. First, let’s take a look at the similarities.

Ease Of Use

Both machines are straightforward to use. When you turn the Keurig K200 2.0 or the Keurig K425 Plus on both machines will begin to preheat. Once both machines have preheated, you will be able to follow the instructions on screen, to select the exact brew you want to make.

Both machines will brew your coffee or tea in under one minute, and you’ll then have a nice beverage to enjoy.

Brew Sizes

Both machines allow selection from a variety of different brew sizes. The K425 Keurig provides slightly more brew sizes ranging from 4-12 Oz brew sizes while the Keurig 200 will enable you to select from 4-10 Oz brew sizes. Both machines will allow you also to brew Carafes as well.

What Are The Differences?

One advantage of the K425 over the K200 is that it contains an auto on/off feature. This allows you to have greater control over when you want your machine to turn on or off. It’s also an essential feature as it improves the energy efficiency of the machine.

Water Tank

The K200 has a tank of 40 Oz whereas the K425 has a tank of 70 Oz. This relates to who each machine is more suited for. The K200 may well be suited for an individual or a couple who are looking for an easy machine to use but has a smaller capacity.

The Keurig 425 would be more suited if you have a group of coffee drinkers in your home or if you’re looking for a new coffee machine or your workplace.

The Final Word

Our Winner: Keurig K200 (4.5/5)

Which Keurig machine is best then? Both machines are suitable for different reasons; the Keurig K200 slightly edges out the Keurig 425. It’s a compact, easy to use machine despite it being suited for 1-2 people the K200 could still be used for a group of people.

It’s more compact, meaning it will fit well in any kitchen or office space. This also makes it easy to store or move if you want to change the location of the machine. Although the K200 doesn’t have an auto ‘on/off’ feature it is very small and compact, due to this the machine doesn’t take a lot of energy to run, and you can always switch the machine off after you’ve finished using it.

Both machines are high-quality though and whichever you choose to go for you will be getting an easy to use machine that will give you great-tasting coffee in under one minute. Hopefully, this guide has given you clear insight into what machine would work best for you.

Keurig K55

CoffeeGearSpy.com Rating: (4/5)

The Keurig K55 on first appearances is a visually striking machine. The standard model comes in a royal blue color which really catches the eye. The K55 brews three sizes: 6 oz, 8 oz, and 10 oz and will brew a cup of coffee in under a minute.

The K55 Keurig comes with a removable 48 Oz water tank, which will allow you to brew around 4-5 cups of coffee before the tank needs refilling. The water tank has a max fill line so you’ll know how much water you can put into the machine.

This should be carried out every three to six months. There is also a heating light to indicate when the water has heated up and the machine is ready to use. With the Keurig K55 Classic, you can use pods or a reusable coffee filter, whichever you prefer.

The Kuerig K55 has a removable drip tray which will hold eight oz of overflow before you’ll need to empty it out. With the drip tray removed you can fit a cup of about 7.5 inches on the machine, and while the drip tray is attached the clearance is just over six inches.

Keurig has also included a quick start guide, so you have simple, easy to follow instructions detailing how to use the machine. A water filter is included as well, so you can make sure that the water you are using to brew your coffee is the purest it can be. The filter should be changed every two months for optimal performance. It’s also recommended to run a cycle of just water when you first get the machine to clean it out.

Keurig K Select vs. Keurig K55

Now that we’ve had a look at both machines it’s time to compare the two and see which comes out on top. We’ll start by looking at the differences between both machines.

Brew Sizes

One of the differences between the two machines is the number of brew sizes available on each one. On the Keurig K Select, the machine will brew 6, 8, 10 or 12 Oz. Whereas on the Keurig Classic K55 you can brew 6 oz, 8 oz, and 10 oz brew sizes.

Another difference between the two machines are the sizes of the water tanks. The K Select Keurig comes with a 52 Oz water tank. The Kurig K55 comes with a 48 Oz water tank. Both good sizes.

Ease Of Use

Both machines are straightforward to use. Simply turn the machine on, make sure you have enough water, and the machine has heated up, and press brew. Both machines will brew your coffee in under one minute. Both machines will let you know when it’s time to descale the machine and if more water is needed or the machine is hot enough.

Water Filter

Keurig has included water filters with both machines. This is an excellent addition by Keurig as it allows you to have clean, purified water to brew your coffee with.

The Final Word

Our Winner: Keurig K-Select (4.5/5)

Both machines are high quality, and if you choose either the Keurig K Select or Keurig K55, you’ll be getting a machine that is simple to use and easy to master. You’ll be able to enjoy clean and purified water with the water filter being included. All in all, if I had to select one machine that comes out on top, it would be the Keurig K-Select Coffee Maker.
