So you want to know how to make the best Bulletproof coffee? (A.K.A Keto Coffee or Super Coffee)
The good news is, you’ve come to the right place.
Whatever your reasons for wanting to try Bulletproof coffee we’ve got you covered with this simple to follow and easy to understand recipe.
Before we dive into the goods of the recipe itself, let’s start with a little introduction into what Bulletproof Coffee is and what makes it so great.
What is Bulletproof Coffee?
Bulletproof Coffee is simply brewed coffee with unsalted butter and medium-chain triglyceride Coconut Oil.
I won’t lie when I first heard of the idea of putting butter in coffee; I was skeptical.
‘Why would you need to put butter in coffee? Surely, sugar does the trick?’
I also thought butter was meant to have on your toast in the morning, not to have in your morning brew…
However, the more I found out, the more I was intrigued to try it. After speaking to people and hearing about those who had also been in my position I decided it was worth a shot.
Now you may have more complex reasons for wanting to try Bulletproof Coffee, many have started it as part of a more major lifestyle and diet overhaul. Or you may be simply be looking for an alternative to the sugar in your coffee you may have enjoyed before.
Let’s take a look at where this butter in coffee idea came from.
Where did Bulletproof Coffee Come From?
Bulletproof Coffee has been around for centuries, it just wasn’t called that. Historians believe that Ethiopians have been using Coffee Beans mixed with Butter since as early as the 9th Century. It was used as a paste and consumed in the form of small balls when extra energy was needed for energy during long journeys.
Its popularity in the West came about from a self-declared biohacker by the name of Dave Asprey. Dave has estimated that people have drunk over 150 million cups of Bulletproof Coffee since he first posted the recipe online in 2009.
The Benefits I’ve Experienced Drinking Bulletproof Coffee
One of the main benefits of Bulletproof coffee is the effect the Coconut Oil has on metabolism. Anyone familiar with the process of Ketosis will be well aware of the weight loss benefit ketosis can bring.
For anyone not familiar with Ketosis, in short, it’s a metabolic state triggered in the body by a lack of carbs. The body begins burning fat at an enhanced rate, killing cravings and enhancing mental cognition.
Bulletproof Coffee has also been put forward as a replacement for breakfast. Now, the important thing to note here and over on Dave Askey’s blog is that a simple cup of coffee, won’t carry the same nutritional value as say two eggs and an avocado, so keep that in mind.
Other Benefits of Keto Coffee:
✔ Increased testosterone leading to increased mood.
✔ Increased energy by combining the effects of caffeine and high-powered fats.
So, there’s plenty of plus points to giving Bulletproof Coffee a try.
Downsides of Bulletproof Coffee
As discussed above many have advocated the use of Bulletproof coffee as a replacement for breakfast, and this seems to be the most contentious point surrounding Bulletproof Coffee.
The idea behind replacing your standard breakfast with Bulletproof Coffee is that with the added butter and oil your body can sustain itself on just the coffee for longer and you won’t feel hungry until later in the day. Which, is particularly useful if you’re looking to lose weight.
The problem with advocating this approach is that radical diet changes can be dangerous and that your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs.
So always consult a medical professional before trying anything too drastic, and the critical thing is to listen to your body and see how you feel if you decide to give Bulletproof Coffee a shot.
Personally, I couldn’t just drink a coffee every morning, no matter how much butter or Coconut Oil it has in it. (I’d miss Bacon and Eggs too much)
Everyone is different and will have different goals and experiences.
So my advice would be to experiment and see how you like it.
